Newcastle Medical Photography Department

Background:

Medical Photography is a specialist profession supporting other healthcare professions within a medical environment. They may work in studios, clinics, operating theatres and on various wards  and supply medical photography to other professional medical staff.

Medical Photography department wants to promote the brand identity of the department. Also because brand identity represent a companies value, service and personality.

The brief says the logo should have impact/be graphical/fresh/capture what we do/look Professional/ Serious.

The will use the logo foe Leaflets/Discs/Consent forms/Letter headed/ Electronics Media/ Contact Card/Promotional Materials

another thing they mentioned is that they don't want the design to be based around  camera which is obvious.

Researched medical logos

Most medical logos i have researched including these has the colour blue, the symbols are normally on the left side and simplistic. The fonts used are clear, easy to read and the logos look professional.

Instead of me using the camera in the logo to represent photography, i have used parts off the camera that i find interesting. The shapes are suppose to represent the lenses of the camera. the smallest shape is meant to present the bright reflection the light.  i first went with the colours black and white but looking back on the research most of the successful logo are in colour example blue or green. therefore i decided to use two different shades of green. i have experimented with the layout oh text, i made some texts stand out than others because that's what i want the viewers to look at first. My favourite Logo is the fourth on the right.

 Evaluation
made sure that “Saturday Sessions” and Ministry of Sound logo were the most visible elements as there is too much overall text for it all to be read when passing the poster.

have  tired to angle the text so that it matches in with the 3D styling and I feel this is very effective.  But I could have done a better job but using Indesign.

My improvement would be to experiment further with text and position to help it incorporate more seamlessly with the rest of the design.
i have used orange and brown. i have experimented with colour.

Used rectangle tool, then effect > 3d> extrude & bevel options to make the rectangle 3d

The varying sizes of cube can also be stacked and arranged to make diverse forms so I will create three cube-based patterns, each using varying combinations of different sized cubes.
First experiment would allow for a better application of text. However
the second experiment is better and more effective.

Evaluation

I have made sure that “Saturday Sessions”, company name and the Ministry of Sound logo were the most visible elements as there is too much overall text for it all to be read when passing the poster.
My improvement would be to experiment further with this text layout and position to help it incorporate more seamlessly with the rest of the design.
I have made full of use of the colour palettes to create three high contrast colour schemes, using purple in each as per the brief and rotating most of the other colours between the posters for unity.
I have angled the text so that it matches in with the 3D styling and I feel this is very effective.

I used all the palette colours. I like how the the second poster looks so far. (colorful and bright). used colours which contrast each other to make it appeal more.

 Poster 1

Evaluation
If I had to improvement anything on the poster, I would change the colour of the ministry of sound logo, because compare to everything it doesnt standout which it should, because its one of the most important things given by ministry of sound to included.
My other improvement would be to include the company name on the poster.
The poster is text heavy. I wanted to layout the content in a way that the poster isn’t dominated by the text. I did excity that  by having lows of text and making the font small, but clear enough to read on A3 poster.
I used the colours provided by ministry of colour as you can see on the poster.

 Development, Poster 1;

Here are a few more 3D pattern examples that I could peruse:

Fonts choice

I wanted a font that was edgy and modern to both fit with the style of the club and its music as well as fit with the poster style..

Further research

                             Hed Kandi

Hed Kandi is the leading vocal house music brand, releasing over 12 compilations and throwing over 1,500 parties  worldwide each year. The company is a UK-based record label and a music brand which was established in 1999 by Mark Doyle, specialising in funky, soulful house music.. Hed Kandi's catalogue includes both artist albums and various genres of club compilations. As well as producing music albums and compilations, the company host events all over the world. From their famous Saturday night parties in Ibiza to pool parties in Las Vegas, their distinct brand of uplifting house music accompanied by a live saxophonist and percussion player can be found in every corner of the globe.

The music brand in positioned in the middle on the poster, covering the length. The brand name also stands out because of the colour as it bright and light therefore contrasts the background the images and other typography below it. i like how the information is positioned below, because the designer has cleverly made use of the space below and found a way to make the texts look good. I like this poster because of the layout and also I wanted to see how they have made heavy text work.
Hed kandi appears more to woman because of  the girly colours used example on this poster they have used a lot of purple. I like how the poster is simple but appearing because of the images, colours  and used of different fonts to help make the poster interesting.
All the typography is positioned on the right, in two different colours and in more than three fonts. I like how the some of the information is in bigger font, it might be because the designer thought the information is more important. Also like the chose of colours; goes with the theme and nightclubs, as well as a girly feel to it.

More examples of ministry of sound’s posters.

They show off the nightclubs style very well by using vibrant colours to catch attention. By using loud colors it promotes the club and makes it obvious they reflect the loud music. Most of these examples use layering and elements like 3D effect text to make the poster as loud and animated as possible. The posters seem to reflect the loud music and vibrant nights you expect with a nightclub.
I found examples of ministry of sound in order to get an idea of the sort of production values and style they usually aim for:

The Ministry of Sound prides itself on the use of high quality sound systems, aiming to attract a crowds of real music lovers looking to enjoy themselves to the best beats the music industry can produce. This fantastic Ministry of Sound poster, in striking black and yellow tones, is ideal for anyone who loves their music and likes to play it loud and proud, as it boldly carries the warning, "Caution, Excessive Sound Levels". The poster is simple, clear and the message easily comes across. The logo colour was changed to match the poster colors.

The typography is bang in the middle of the poster and in white, choosing this colour met the typography will standout from the bright, colour and business background. The  poster was promoting  the Ministry of Sound gig, which was broadcast live on Radio 1, were told their poster might provoke passengers to vandalise trains and stations because poster features graffiti-style. Again the logo colours have been change to suit the poster.

I like how one of the ministry of sound logo’s is positioned on the pyramid, I think it was a clever idea and also used illustrator to make the logo part of the pyramid. Am not a big fan of the layout but the way the typography and the images are laid out, it works well.  The poster has used four different fonts, this makes the typography and poster look interesting, exciting and fun.

Stationery Set

Created a stationery set, again i have used the same colours as the logo and menu and also the shape of the logo as the background

Loco Restaurant Menu

Created menu for the restaurant, also included the logo at the top of each page. I tried to make a connection between the logo and the menu by using the same font, colors and layout.  i have included an image of food in the background because i didn't want to leave the background plain, so having the food image makes the menu look more appealing and gives the audience an example of what food the will expect when they go their themselves.

loco logo

I have created a logo for the staff restaurant in newcastle college, my idea was to created a logo that is simple, clear and appeals to all staff. I chose the word "Loco" because it can easily to remember, sounds good and i think it will appeal to the target audience. I included a slogan below the restaurant name because without it, the logo could be about anything and also the slogan gives the audience more detail about the restaurant example fresh food. i decided to used orange for the word "tasty" because it remembers me of the spices and the things that are included in the food to make it tasty, used green for the word "fresh" because the green reminds people of something new and if its food then vegetarian food. And also  used the colour red for "food" because some of the food will be cook and hot but another reason why is because i didn't want the logo to be just black and white.
